procurement expert. Sydney or melbourne

Mechanical Systems / Industrial Automation

- Are you a procurement professional with experience of buying components and equipment for mechanical systems, industrial automation, the lift or construction industry or similar?

- Do you have experience of developing procurement strategies, including the identification and selection of both domestic and offshore suppliers?


The Company

My client is a highly respected provider of industrial automation and material-handling solutions. With offices in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as overseas, they have created a new opportunity for a Procurement professional. Operating in a lean environment, the new appointee will take on the responsibility not only to develop but also to deliver best-practice strategies for the company’s Australian operations. 


The Role

Based in either office the new appointee will:

- Develop procurement strategies and policies

- Identify and assess best-value equipment and component / parts suppliers, with consideration to both domestic and international options.

- Manage supplier relationships and negotiate long-term contracts

- Oversee the procurement budget and cost control

- Assess supply chain risks and sustainability

- Ensure compliance with company and regulatory policies

- Analyse market trends and identify cost-saving opportunities

- Create and issue purchase orders (POs)

- Follow up on deliveries and order status

- Source and compare quotes from suppliers

- Maintain purchasing records and documentation

- Communicate with suppliers on order issues

- Assist with inventory control and stock levels


About you

To thrive in this high-paced environment, it is likely that you will have a good understanding of relevant categories for parts/components, gained from previous experience of working in a mechanical systems or construction-related environment. You will also be able to demonstrate a track record of:

- Identifying, assessing and selecting new equipment / component suppliers, both domestically and offshore.

- Optimising procurement efficiency

- Reducing total cost of ownership (TCO)

- Ensuring alignment of procurement strategies with business objectives

- Managing timely and accurate purchasing across a multi-site operation.

- Achieving best-value procurement outcomes

- Support multiple internal stakeholders’ material requirements


This role provides a rare opportunity for an experienced procurement professional to optimise, enact and set the direction of the future procurement strategy for the Australian operations of a successful and supportive international organisation.
